Blog Post – Fast, Easy, and Modern Journaling

Just for Moms – Journaling

The well-known phrase “the days are long, but the years are short” is a truism that sums up the first few years of parenting.  Taking care of little ones is repetitive, which can sometimes be a little boring.  Nevertheless, our children become the focus of our lives, and as one phase of childhood turns into the next, we often look back in awe of how quickly time as passed.

Journaling can be a great way of keeping all this in perspective, as well as a wonderful way to track both your child’s and your own personal development.  If you’re thinking, “I don’t have time to journal,” take heart.  It doesn’t have to be time consuming or complicated.  Below are a couple suggestions on how to keep journaling simple:

One line a day:Once you form this habit, it’s easy to fit it into your day.  You can purchase a “one line a day” journal for about $10, and most span 5 years. Each night take 5 minutes to record the main things that happened that day.  You can jot down whatever you have felt throughout the day – happiness, dread, excitement, exhaustion, and accomplishment.  You can also use this to keep track of your child’s feelings, growth, and milestones.  The “rule” is to keep it to only a line or two.

Use a calendar or an agenda book:  Pick up an old-fashioned wall calendar or agenda book and use it to remember what each day held for your family.  Track appointments, play dates, events, etc., and also write anything important that you or your child experienced during each day.

Time flies, so most importantly, enjoy your time with your children. If you’re interested in helping homeless mothers, or are a mother in need of help yourself, please visit our website at stgiannasplace.org.
