Blog Post – Filtering the Noise for a Great youtube Experience

Life lately has been overwhelming, and on-line news often adds to daily stress.  In response, many people have chosen to forgo social media all together in order to avoid negative or biased reporting.  Popular platforms offer an abundance of information, but it can be hard to separate truth from fiction.

However, you do have some control.  Curating a list of good youtube subscriptions can help you create a much more positive on-line experience.  In order to do this effectively, you may need to create a new Google account.  Doing so will give you the ability to start from scratch and create a content list that benefits your family.

First, start off thinking about the kind of media you really want.  Next, think of the frequency that you wish to watch.  Having an hour or two of new content each day will allow you to pick and choose which you actually want to view.  Consider the following areas when creating your personalized list:

Places of interest:  Many national and state parks or even theme parks have people who create videos all about them.  For instance, there are many bloggers who speak about their experience working at Disney, Universal Studios or Six Flags.  It can be a fun way to learn something new should you be able to go there one day.

People of interest:  There are numerous bloggers who blog about their personal experiences with disability, disease or simply being different.  There are numerous scientists who study chemicals, engineering or bring other complicated topics to life. A very popular blind youtuber is also a motivational speaker.  While not everyone is motivational, many videos are clean, funny and full of relatable personal experience.

Hobbies of interest:  Many content creators are brilliantly creative at their amateur trades.  There are people who restore tools, who knit using circular looms, who draw, who design with paper clay.   There are people who do let’s plays of popular video games which could spark interest in a new hobby or give you information about something you like to play.  Many of the projects are completely accessible and require only a small start up cost if you become interested.

Years of interest:  Ever wonder what cooking was like in the 18th century?  What 17th century rural life in England was like? Do you want to travel to pre-revolutionary Boston?  Living history is a great way to enjoy learning about what life was like 100, 200 or even 500 years ago.  On-line role players take you right to the time you’re interested in and give fascinating insight to how people lived.

Creating a more personalized on-line environment can help you view content you are truly interested in and bring you back to a positive place if you feel frustrated or overwhelmed.  Additionally, you will use your screen time more productively. Visit our website at stgiannasplace.org to read additional family-oriented blogs and to learn more about our mission to help pregnant women in crisis.
